Umbilical Hernia in Babies : Is That Bulge Normal?
Umbilical hernia is common in infants and is usually harmless. It appears as a soft bulge at the baby's belly button, often becoming more prominent when the baby cries or strains. Most umbilical hernias close spontaneously as the abdominal wall matures, usually by 3–4 years of age. Parents should avoid taping the hernia or placing a coin over it, as these measures do not help and may injure the skin.
